Control4 lighting control replaces the bank of switches by each door with one engraved keypad that runs scenes for the whole room. In Dublin we fit it in new builds at first fix and retrofit it to older houses with wireless dimmers, so no walls need chasing.
What Control4 lighting control does in a Dublin home
A scene is a saved combination of light levels. Evening brings the lamps up and the downlights down; Cooking does the opposite; Away turns everything off from the front door. Control4 stores the scenes on the controller in the house, so the keypads keep working if the broadband drops.
Dublin housing stock sets the method. A red brick in Ranelagh or Clontarf with original plasterwork suits wireless Control4 dimmers that drop into the existing back boxes. A new build in Malahide or Castleknock can have a centralised lighting panel wired at first fix, which leaves the walls clean apart from a keypad.
- Engraved keypads. Scene names printed on the buttons, in a finish chosen to match the room.
- Dimming matched to the fitting. We prefer to test a sample of each LED fitting on the dimmer before committing, which is how flicker and buzz are avoided.
- Schedules. Lights that track sunset through the year, dim at bedtime and switch off when the house is empty.
- One system. Lighting shares the app and remote with blinds, music, cinema and cameras.
Control4 publishes its lighting range at control4.com. For a finished example of our own, see the living room with an LED feature wall, where Control4 runs the slot lighting and the media wall.
Questions we are often asked
Can Control4 lighting be added to an existing Dublin house?
Yes. Control4 wireless dimmers and keypads fit standard Irish back boxes in place of ordinary switches, so most houses can be done room by room without rewiring.
Does Control4 dim LED downlights properly?
Yes, provided the dimmer type matches the fitting. We prefer to test a fitting first rather than assume, because cheap LED drivers are the usual cause of flicker.
What happens to the lights if the internet goes down?
Nothing changes at the keypads. Lighting runs locally on the Control4 controller in the house. Only the app from outside the house needs an internet connection.
How many keypads does a room need?
Usually one by the main door, sometimes a second by the bed or sofa. Each keypad can hold up to six scenes, which covers most rooms.
Does lighting control add value to a Dublin house?
It is part of the finish buyers now expect in a high end renovation or new build, though we make no claim about resale value. What it does change is how the house feels every evening.
